Recently, a father and mother lost their 10 year old son to a horrific accident, that resulted in their son suffocating to death. I do not know what it feels like to lose a child.. I will not even pretend to have a clue. All I know is that it must be the worst feeling ever experienced by mankind.

This is written as an ABC poem.

An ABC poem has a series of lines that create a mood, picture, or feeling. Lines are made up of words and phrases. The first word of line 1 begins with an A, the first word of line 2 begins with a B etc.

A parent’s sorrow

Agonized, she did, over her lost boy, 10 only
Bad news came at 5pm, with her husband’s frantic call
Catastrophe rang in her ears as she learned her only son had…
Drowned under a pile of grain

I wake up to die

(yes, i know there are spelling errors. will correct them later)

I was inspired to write this poem during my time on night float as a surgery resident. During night float, we cover some of the floor patients and all traumas that come in. These ranged from car accidents, falls, shootings, stabbings, etc. Some of these cases were tragic, like the 10 year old boy who suffucated under a pile of corn when it was dumped on him accidentally, or the man who was out on a leisurely ride who was struck by a car and ended up brain dead. These are all people who had tragic ends, whose lives ended suddently, in a day, an hour, a second. None of us know when we will die (at least not to the very second.) So we are left to live our lives and press on, until that day arrives. This is just a poem about those who los ttheir lives, who up that morning, only to be dead by that evening.

I wake up to die
I wake up to die like the blooming rose in a breezy spring morning, alive, refreshed ….
Before the storm hits and wipes it away forever, but memories still
I wake up and live and breath and see and watch the sun, it rises
I see the blue hue of the sky, grass green of the earth, bright brown of my eyes, alive
Morning coffee awaits me, awakes me
I rush out and play, and work, and visit loved ones, I know they will miss me now
I see my feet fast on the ground alive, chipper, walking, happy
I woke up and lived, for awhile, until my end
The storms encircled me, I suffacated, I crashed, I broke, I died
It was quick, short, early, the day was not over yet, but dark hues had begun to greet the sky
I woke up and died, today, of all days, was mine to claim
